Each and every person has fears. One would fear spiders, the others would fear needles or heights, or students would fear exams or tests, but what about fearing life and its happenings? See, people's actions are motivated either by love or fear*. Which, in some way is very true. How often have we refused a potential life-changing situation out of fear of changes? How often have we avoided serious conversations out of fear of being rejected? How often have we failed to open up to people who loved us out of fear of getting hurt? And how often have we tried to control each and every area of our lives out of fear that everything would fall apart?
It is so easy for people to say 'have faith instead of being frightened'. But what if your utmost desire was hanging by a thread? Exactly then, your Faith is put to test. Are you willing to do everything in your power to handle things alone or are you willing to let Him handle and navigate your life?
For most people, including me, who like to have control over most of their lives, it sure is a challenge to simply let go of everything, even though we know that there are a lot of possibilities to steer our lifeboat perfectly on our own. Being independent might seem a characteristic of strength for most people but it also has the connotation of being alone. We all know that we weren't born in this world in order for us to be alone. And we perfectly know that we don't have to go through this life on our own as well.
The biggest challenge I currently have to face is to Let Go and Let God. A lot of things have backfired in my life just because I wanted to control everything. The reasons were out of fear that everything would fall apart. I never wanted to pass on the steering wheel to the great and almighty Father because I simply feared the unknown. Unfortunately, the one thing I wanted to prevent actually happened - everything fell apart. So what to do, when you've got nothing in your hands anymore? What to do when you know you want to change everything but you can't? What to do when everything seems hopeless? You simply have Faith. Since it's the Year of Faith, we truly are encouraged to stand firm and persevere. No one knows what might happen, no one knows what challenges we have to face, but we must trust and believe that this year, simply anything good can happen. By this encouragement, I do not want to seem as if I'm the most positive person in the whole world, no, by this encouragement I on one hand want to remind myself that I am not in control and on the other hand I want to let you know, to always keep the Faith, even when everything's lost.
