On Dating Good Guys

I've come across this really nice blog post about dating good guys by Stephanie Georgopulos. There is just this habit of girls wanting to fix broken guys like in movies so as to end up with them one day but just being realistic - you are putting up with someone completely stupid who does not even recognise your worth and your effort in helping him which makes him pretty much a douchebag. Other than that and hopefully when realising it's just a waste of time, focus on yourself! There's no one who can love you more than yourself or God.

On Dating Good Guys
JUL. 18, 2011
By STEPHANIE GEORGOPULOS info
There seems to be this undercurrent of asshole-loving lately; my peers justifying their ill-advised decision to partner with people they believe can and will ‘change.’ I’m all about personal preference, but it seems that while the Nice Guy/Asshole debate rages on, no one has stood up for the Good Guys.
When I was younger (whatever age you are when people actually sign yearbooks), there was this one descriptor that people always included when signing my autograph book or what-have-you. ‘Sweet.’ “Stay sweet, Stephanie,” or “You’re such a sweet girl.” It’s funny; I don’t think anyone has called me ‘sweet’ since I was thirteen, probably – but at the time, it was a recurring theme. I was sweet.I don’t believe I’m inherently ‘unsweetened’ now, but I’ve developed somewhat of an acerbic tinge. I won’t shy away from expressing my opinion (unless I’ve predetermined that my opponent will likely refer to out-of-context talking points that they picked up from Rush Limbaugh – in that case, I won’t waste my breath). I am a master of dirty looks, the silent treatment, and making apparent when someone’s actions are unacceptable. I can, at times, be a raging bitch.
These two polarizing aspects of my personality (along with many others) coexist peaceably. I try to be thoughtful, I do nice things for other people because I want to, I am genuine when expressing emotion (OMG I know, earnestness, gross!). But I also won’t take your crap, and if you give me enough of it, I will peace out of your life and I will not regret it. Count on that. I am capable of being a warm blanket of golden light, but I’m also capable of being a laser beam that will effing cut you. In other words, I am the nice guy. And I am the asshole. We all are, to some degree.Which is why, when given the choice, I want to date a Good Guy. I want someone who is a real, flawed human being – someone who, despite those flaws, makes the conscious, ongoing effort to act benevolently toward the people around him. Because there is no such thing as An Asshole and A Nice Guy and if that’s all we can say about these people, what they really are is An Actor. A one-dimensional character whose actions are motivated by the desire to project a controlled, steadfast image to the world.
I do not want to fix someone. I’m too busy working on myself. I wouldn’t want to date someone who isn’t doing the same, who doesn’t see the value in growth. I’m not here to hold someone’s hand while they learn how to grow up. I’m not a pre-school teacher; I’m not a therapist. A man is not an art project to be cut up into little pieces and glued back together. You’re your own fixer-upper, honey; do with that what you will.I want to be with someone who respects me, someone who I can respect. I do not want to tote around some unruly asshole, a discount handbag that looks impressive on the outside but is really falling apart at the seams. This would be a reflection of my own bad taste and insecurity, dating some mess of a person who doesn’t use the words, ‘Please’ and ‘Thank You,’ someone who has no consideration for other people. I don’t want to introduce that person to my friends, or to my family – who all happen to be Good People who have a low tolerance for assholes.I don’t want to date someone indifferent to themselves or to me. Is it an oddity that I don’t want to be treated like crap?
I do not have time to hopelessly await someone’s phone call; I do not have time to place heaps of unwarranted blame on myself when someone or something seemingly ‘disappears.’ I don’t have the time to jump through hoops to prove that I am worthy of someone’s affections, and even if I did have the time? That’s not how I would spend it.No, I want a Good Guy – someone who is a good person before I date him, while I date him, and after I date him. Someone who is capable of letting go of whatever Grave Injustices were done to him, who doesn’t blame the world for his misfortunes. Someone who respects himself, who wants to be with someone who will treat him the way he deserves to be treated. Someone who is nice but not a doormat, someone who is confident but not an asshole. Someone who gets to date a Good Person by being one, not by appealing to a girl’s desire to ‘fix’ their self-perpetuated damage. So, to the ladies who want assholes, keep them. I’ll take the sane, emotionally stable man any day.

German Music Week: Fettes Brot

"German music does not always have to be bad. Let me just introduce you to several artists that bring quality music with quality lyrics on the market. You might or might not know the songs but if you do, enjoy singing along to them as much as I do."

Fettes Brot is a German Hip Hop group consisting of three guys from Hamburg. The group was founded in 1992 and have established a strong fanbase in German speaking countries. They are well-known for their goofy songs and videos but even more for their critical lyrics about society. Furthermore, most of their songs are very familiar to German speakers. In my eyes they are one of the best hip hop group in Germany!

German Music Week: Juli

"German music does not always have to be bad. Let me just introduce you to several artists that bring quality music with quality lyrics on the market. You might or might not know the songs but if you do, enjoy singing along to them as much as I do."

Eva Briegel, Marcel Römer, Andreas Herde and Jonas Pfetzing make up the band Juli. They are a Pop-Rock combination and have been present since 1996 as 'Sunnyglade'. However, since 2001 they are known as 'Juli'. They reached their stardom with their song "Perfekte Welle" in 2004 and ever since are one of the Top German Acts. Since Silbermond and Juli have risen to fame in the same year, they had to face comparisons due to their similarities. Both bands, however, have strictly disclaimed these opinions.

Books, books, books

German Music Week: Sportfreunde Stiller

"German music does not always have to be bad. Let me just introduce you to several artists that bring quality music with quality lyrics on the market. You might or might not know the songs but if you do, enjoy singing along to them as much as I do."

Sportfreunde Stiller is a German indie-rock band that have been active ever since 1996. The band consists of three guys from Munich and are well known for their rock sounds and clever lyrics.
In 2006 they release the song "'54, '74, '90, 2006" that quickly became the World Championship theme song held in Germany. Furthermore they have always been present at Austrian and German Music Festivals in the summer.

German Music Week: Die 3. Generation

"German music does not always have to be bad. Let me just introduce you to several artists that bring quality music with quality lyrics on the market. You might or might not know the songs but if you do, enjoy singing along to them as much as I do."

Die 3. Generation was a band consisting of three guys from Germany who got together through a casting. The band was active from 1998 to 2004 and are well known for their german rap in ballads. They reached fame with their song 'Leb' which was the theme song for that time's Big Brother.

Songlist:
"Ich will dass du mich liebst" (2000)
"Drei kleine Worte" (2001)

German Music Week: Silbermond

Whenever my brother is at our place we usually randomly listen to very old songs. Mostly very cheesy and lovey dovey songs since its mostly very funny to us. Inspired by that I thought of posting a bunch of German songs that I still listen to now and then this whole week.

Kicking it off with: Silbermond is a Pop/Rock band from Germany (Bautzen, Sachsen) and is a well-known band throught the German speaking countries. The band consists of four members: Stefanie Kloß, Andres Nowak, Johannes and Thomas Stolle. Even though the band has been existing since 1998, they reached success and full acknowledgement in 2004. All of their albums reached platinum status in Austria and Germany.
Their last album was released in 2009 and ever since the band hasn't had many public appearances.
Let us hope for a new record in the making.

The reason for their success must probably be their ballads and their lyrics. Go and check them out!

Embrace your struggles

I found this lovely article during my preparation for the finals a couple of months ago. I hope it inspires you as much as it inspired me.
Embracing the struggle doesn’t mean you should enjoy struggling. It means to learn from the struggle. So often we don’t learn from what we are going through nor do we take the time to enjoy what we have because we are too busy hoping for what we don’t have. Therefore, at every moment of our lives we are ignoring the present and always longing for a better future, not realizing that we are draining the power from the present moment.
I always picture the journey to success as climbing a mountain. When you think about it, you realize that all the lessons are in the climb. It’s in the climb where your best friends are made. It’s in the climb where your strength is built and your character is formed. It’s in the climb where you must appreciate every step you take. No matter how small the surface, you appreciate that you are on solid ground.
So as you are longing for a better future, whatever it may be, don’t forget to value the climb. Learn the lessons life is trying to teach you, both the bitter and the sweet. Allow each obstacle to build strength and character because it’s in the moments of adversity when that will be revealed. Learn how to be hungry for more, but also content with what you already have. This is the point in your life when you will find complete balance and pure happiness.
Dream
Plan
Execute

Hey You. You're beautiful.

Sometimes in life, we truly forget who we are. We tend to get influenced by what society or even our peers expect from us. It's like, everything you do isn't good enough, your looks don't make the cut or even worse, I don't want to meet you because you look/act/seem weird. That is why it is so easy for us to loose ourselves and would rather adapt and be like everyone else than embrace our own uniqueness. Adaption is nothing bad, no question, nevertheless we shouldn't adapt at such a high degree that we completely neglect our own selves. The most frequent sentence in our head might probably be "what would the others think?" and that's when you base all your decisions on what 'the others' think and that's when you start to lead the life 'they' think is appropriate.
How about you? Is that what YOU want in life?

The next thing would be impressing people. There are occasions where you have to impress people due to acquiring a job or getting that good grade. Of course that is where the first impression counts a lot but then again, it's just for one occasion.
I used to be so caught up in the belief that the game and happiness is won when everyone around you is impressed by you. I learned that happiness doesn't come through the eyes of others. Happiness comes just purely from what is inside YOU.

We live in such a judgemental world and I just think it is time for us to set all prejudices aside and see for yourself! See for yourself if that weird, quiet girl is really weird and quiet. Maybe she's just shy at first but a blast when you get to know her more. See for yourself if that guy with an A-class car is really as cool as you think. Maybe he is just another guy who bases his peer groups by their classes in society. Is he still cool like that? See for yourself if you want to be a doctor, a musician or a writer. Everyone else said you won't find a fair job but maybe being a doctor, a musician or a write is your life goal and you really achieve it. People should start seeing and experiencing things for themselves first before even judging things. Whereas for YOU, just do us a favour and be/do YOU.
Where is the thrill in life if you can't be yourself - a complete unique and beautiful person?

Don't care about what others think of you, they're not living your life.
Don't care about who to impress, you don't need them as much as they need you.
Don't care about what others have, you have everything you need and so much more.
Don't base your life on fitting into the crowd, when in life you'll find just the right crowd to stick to.

There is a reason God made you the way you are, so embrace it. Everyone is different and  whenever you have accepted yourself as yourself, then people can expect as much as they want from you but YOU are still the only person that can decide for yourself.

Aloe Blacc - I'm beautiful

I hope this was a thought-provoking post and I dearly hope that you decide to be you.

SNEAKERNESS, Vienna 9/10/11

Just a week ago, TGs unintentionally had a so called "Beshi" Day. So, Sio and I spent the afternoon with each other and visited that day's event "Sneakerness". It was held at the Ottakringer Brauerei in the 16th district with lots and lots of people. We got there quite late so we basically missed out on the programme but that didn't matter since we had time to walk around on our own. The people were friendly as well as very stylish. When it came to the selection of the shoes it was rather disappointing. I wasn't sure whether it was due to the location but I had expected an overflow of shoes. Nevertheless, we were very excited to find out that a new sneaker store was going to open soon in VTown!! Highlight of the event were probably the Jordans as well as the art works and the watches at the main entrance. Many brands were presented such as Nike, Puma, Reebok, Kangaroos etc. I was pretty much impressed by the artists over there since they even designed bags and shoes at the spot. I can't wait for another event like this!

Sio's new friend.

And then there was goodbye!

Just a couple days ago I had to say my goodbyes to a very good friend of mine. He's about to start his freshmen year in college in Glasgow, studying Marketing! It's so good to see him doing his thing and you can bet I'll be there to support him as much as he supported me back in the school days. It was a nice get together with the old schoolmates and it was nice catching up a bit.
As for Dominik, I'm sure he's going to be really successful when it comes to studying or when it comes to girl.
Dominik, study and party hard =) It's gonna be a lifetime experience and you deserve it!
Take care, big boy! I'll be seeing you on Christmas :)

What a colourful wrist you have!

ToyWatch Jelly USA is the newest trend among the watch carriers. They are bright, colourful and look sporty and also elegant. There is a possibility of creating your own watch on their website which makes the product even more attractive apart from their flashy colours. A watch costs around  $ 160 excl. shipping costs. There are a few retailers in other countries, however, Austria isn't included. If you still want to have a colourful watch like these, nonetheless, not want to pay that much for it, then you could check Dorotheum in the city or in the 10th district. You have the choice between a smaller or a bigger edition. The smaller one is priced at € 25,- and the bigger one at € 50,-.
I personally like these watches, only optically, since I rather like the more elegant and classy type of watches. I hope I could give you a little taste of these new and fashionable watches.

Rest of My Life - Raniel Mortel

I feel so blessed to have so many talented people in my life. It leaves me in awe, watching them how they grow with their talent. This guy here makes me so proud! It is Raniel's first slow choreography and I can say it is SO GOOD! He is one of the few examples of starting from the very bottom to getting to the very top and he inspires me so much. His drive and his will to be a good dancer makes him the dancer he is now. Keep it up, brotherheart! We got your back, yo!

Oh, and I hope that special someone feels extraordinarily special!!!!

There aint no party like an SClub Party

After the girls and I got back home from our vacation, there just had to be a reunion with the boys. Funnily enough, they made us girls think that it wasn't gonna work out since one of them was too down to go out (that's like so whatever) and the other one too lazy, so we were very disappointed at first. However, as soon as we saw them boys walking towards us, we were top motivated to spend the evening with each other. Good times, good times, when you can spend the second last day of summer with your best mates.

YFL Vienna Video Competition 2011

So, for this year's Congress we took part in the video competition. The video had to be somewhat a trailer based on the theme FOREVER STRONG (Isaiah 49:5). For the first time ever, I was responsible for the whole process of making the video. It was a challenge but with all the help from the video-comp. team and everyone else, I always had the drive to keep on going though at times I felt giving up. The challenge was that I had never done this before and it had to be for a competition, the person who had more experience in all this was out of town and finally, the timespan was too short. Apart from all that, my creativiy was on level zero most of the time and the ideas just didn't keep on coming. The video competition team and I had enough ideas though. However, it was hard carrying them out in an interesting and catchy way. The video shoots were fun and also spontaneous in a way, only the editing was pretty tiring. Comparing the video material we had with the result, you can see that we cut out a lot. I want to apologise to the people who I left out in the video. You still helped and made a great job! This whole experience taught me not to give up even though your mind kills you with lots and lots of doubt. It made me realise that if you do your best, good things will still happen. Out of all videos that have been shown during the Congress, ours was the shortest but probably have made a big impact since we took the 2nd place for it. I was very surprised and very happy when they announced it. God is really good. Just by thinking that it was extremely nervewracking for me to be in the audience watching it on full-screen and literally being able to see everyone's reactions. It was a good start in something that might develop.

Look and watch for yourself. Feedback is appreciated.
Plot: Four different teenagers have to deal with problems such as peer pressure, failure in sports, cybermobbing as well as hardships in fitting in in their lives. The only way they see improvements and staying strong in their lives  is when they turn to God.

BIG kudos again for:
  • The camera and editing team - Randy Lu, Jeffrey Gabunia, Kennet Panti
  • The video comp-team - Stefanie Bautista, Paula Mendoza, Selyn Gonzales, Amy Calvo, Chantle Cotamora
  • The actors - Anne Pajarillaga, Pamela Sangalang, Annie Leonor, Lisabel Navarro, Jayvee Megino, Daniel Bacsa, Jesse Dones, Melvin Isla, Raniel Mortel
  • The shooting spot - Jason Santiago's house

The New Girl on FOX

Since Pretty Little Liars has come to the end of its first season and I might want to kill time, here is what I can't wait to watch. Zoey Deschanel on "The New Girl". It is all about her character Jess who finds out that her boyfriend cheated on her and therefore has to look for a new apartment. In that case she tries her luck in an apartment with three other guys. They trailer looked fun and I really excited about this show. Here a little taste of the new show, airing in a couple of weeks.

Back to School

It's September everybody, meaning its back to school and it's fall quite soon. We have had great weather in VTown at the beginning of the month. However, I expect it to get more autumn soon. I can't wait to coze up to one of these jumpers and cardigans soon.
Anyways, I've mentioned school before, haven't I?
It is weird for me getting up and realising that everyone was out and weirdly enough I sort of feel left out. That's what's up! I would only wish to go back to Junior High since those were the best years I had of schooling and I still envy all students who get to see their best friends in school and stuff. I'm not whining or anything, I'm just reminiscing and walking down memory lane a bit.
On the other hand I am pretty excited about Uni. Knowing that I can play with the 'older' ones now and start being the real me I want to be. Yet, I am also nervous about everything else since Uni can really be overwhelming but then again I have enough support behind my back. It is also quite scary when you think that the adult life has officially started. You are supposed to do everything by yourself but since I am me, I guess I would just need a little push from my loved ones. I'm getting to independence though, no worries.
As for the other important people in my life, I am very happy for them to start school or start again. I am sure that it is part of God's plan and I am also sure that they will just be alright.

I wish all of you guys a happy start in the new school year as well as enough energy, motivation and stamina.
